I'm looking into a new IDE drive but I don't quite get all this ata/100 stuff. Do you need a seperate controller card like scsi needs? Do new motherboards have this built in? I have an older system, looking for a new harddrive. I just didn't want to get an ata 100 drive if I also need a controller, or if I should just wait until I upgrade my mobo?

Thanks!

ultra ata is just the step up from ata/66. same from ata/33 to ata/66. all your p00ter needs is a ata/100 mobo. if it doesnt have one the drive will work fine, it will just plop down to ata/66. no worries.

yeah, the ide standard is backwards compatible so an ata100 hdd will work without problems on an ata33,66 or 100 controller!
