Questions about the 8800gt and the Sharp 32" Aquos

I finally broke down and bought a 8800gt earlier this week, I got around to installing it this afternoon. I plan on taking a few games for a test drive tonight, but I can't seem to figure out how to eliminate the overscan. Right now I can only partially see the system tray and start button.

What's the best option for defeating overscan? Is powerstrip my only option?
 
if you know your pc is set to the right resolution, im thinking your tv might be set to zoom or something...

yep, you're absolutely right. I checked the settings and the TV was in zoom, I changed it to dot by dot and everything looks perfect now.

The problem is that nVidia are a***oles and have disabled overscan compensation on the 8k series GPUs.

This problem exists only with XP, overscan works in Vista 32 and 64 bit, without the use of the registry thing.

I have an XFX 8800GTS 320Mb and just got an 8800GT 512Mb. There's an overscan enabling registry utility that you can download to "Enable overscan". It worked with the GTS, but it does absolutely nothing with the GT.

I cannot express without severe profanity my disgust with nVida right now. I cannot find anything to 'fix' this problem with the GT.

If anyone can help the OP and myself, please, please, PLEASE post.

I'm going to put back the GTS right now, at least the registry thing worked with that one..........

Totally rediculous, nVidia.
 
The 'Resize my HD desktop" is the exact thing that DONT work on the 8k cards.....

That's what this issue is all about.

I'm trying a beta driver that allegedly includes 'custom' resolutions. I read over on HF that this can be used to fix(?) this problem.

I'll post back only if it does.
 
I downloaded 174.20 drivers from Guru3D.

They didn't fix the GT, but I now don't have to use the registry thingy for the GTS, it properly sized my desktop automaticly.

The main reason I bought the GT was in hopes that the G92 would eliminate a frame rate probelm in Final Fantasy XI in Vista, (wich it got better, but it's still not all-the-way right). I'm going to post the GT 4-sale here.

Hope this gets fixed.

Arkitech, I feel sorry to inform you that after four hours of researching online, (reading posts, reviews, etc...), there is not a fix to the overscan problem with the 8800GT.

FWIW, I too use a Sharp Aquos. Mine is 37".

EDIT: I found a post specific to the Aquos where a user got the display to show the full, unadjusted screen. Hit 'View mode' on your remote and select 'Dot by dot'. This will stop the cropping.

The user was using a 52" Aquos, but I tried this and it did work. However, there were some consequences. Fonts were not displayed the same, (slightly discolored and thinner text), the display seemed to be off on the overall color, and the screen position was off a tad to the top. Also, this will use the same setting for every input, not just the one you are on when changing the setting. I didn't try the other PC, (via HDMI), and my PS2 with this 'Dot by dot' setting so IDK what, (if anything), it'll do to those inputs.

Resize HDTV desktop worked for me prior to using "Full Screen" aka Dot by Dot, but it took alot of random switching retrying, changing resolutions etc.

Dot by Dot is only available when the input is 1080i/p. It will show as Fullscreen in the view modes if the input is any lower.

And blitz he already solved the problem 😛
