Questions about Shuttle PC

hi guys,
I am putting together a media PC, and was wondering about a few things.

I've always built my own systems, and added things that I needed. Is it possible to buy a barebone
Shuttle PC and add memory, proc and hard drive myself?

or do I have to buy one already built from shuttle, as I would a Dell?

I would prefer to buy the parts and build it myself if I could.

any help and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Raj

tigerdirect has them in stock.

Not sure, I am just trying to figure out if I can build a cube pc just as I could a regular pc.

What are my options/limitations as far as putting one together.

can i go out and buy components and put it together myself?

If you just buy the barebones you can add all of that stuff. I put my own together. Avoid the Shuttle website, it sucks. Check out www.sfftech.com for all of your Shuttle questions.

I built an XPC built around the SN41G2 model last october-ish.

It works pretty well, but only has a single PCI slot open, which i used for a TV-card, to have PVR usage. Putting parts in does require you to remove all the drives.

Watch out for generic ram, which caused a couple motherboards of mine to crash. thankfully i had a friend who could replace them for me.

some come with video out already which is cool for watching on your tv.

www.newegg.com has some barebone systems as well.

One word for you, nEwegg. Always, newegg. Newegg has all of the Shuttle lineups in barebone format.

Pick up an SN41G2V2 Which is NVidia Nforce 2 IGP with an ultra quiet powesupply. If u want to do an Athlon XP system. If you want a Athlon 64, they have some really nice models out there. All in all, for media pc's, stick with AMD systems, they are cheaper and more bang for your buck.

Yeah you have to remove the drives but this is easy it has a drive caddy with 2 screws......

You also have an open AGP slot so you can add a better video card than the GeFeorce MX it comes with.

Messing around in that case is a pain though since you have such little room to get your fingers in there since everything is compacted together.

Still, I made a media PC out of one of those cases and have been quite pleased with it.

In fact I just finished bullding another one for my neighbor with revision 2 of that case. It is a little nicer than mine since it has a optical out and in on the back of the case instead of an optical out on the front.
