Questions about removing stock heatsink from Celeron 1.1GHz

I recently purchased a retail Celeron 1.1GHz. I have everything running fine on a Abit BH6 motherboard with an MSI slocket, but I am concerned about the fan/heatsink combo. The stock heatsink and fan are really too big to fit in my case. I can't put the power supply all the way back into the case....it's partially resting against the heatsink, which I figure is not a good thing.

So, I'm looking at getting a new (smaller) heatsink/fan combo. However, I'm concerned about removing the stock heatsink fan, so I figured I'd turn to you guys with a few questions.

Will it be difficult to pry the heatsink back off of the chip?
Will any of the "thermal pad" that comes with the stock heatsink be stuck onto the chip?
If so, how can I get the residue off without damaging the chip?

Thanks a bunch!

P.S. Any recommendations for a low cost cooling solution? I've been looking at the Cooler Master combos....

I have a C1000 in a BH6 with the factory HS/Fan. Yes, it's big. It does fit (MSI 6905 slocket), but with not much to spare. The case I have does not have a power supply fit problem. You must have the vertical mount type. Removing the HS/Fan is pretty easy. Take the fan off first, then lift the little green lever on the HS.
