Questions about RAM performance on kt333

I just recently bought a Gigabyte 7VRXP with the KT333 chipset, I am using Crucial PC2100 RAM in it but, in the BIOS, I set it to run at 333mhz rather than 266.

I used Sisoft Sandra 2002 SP1 to benchmark the RAM performance; according to Sandra, I only get performance slightly higher than PC2100 RAM on a KT266 chipset, while having performance nowhere near that of PC2700 RAM on a KT333 chipset.

If I leave the RAM at a 266mhz bus, then the performance is greatly diminished, having trouble even keeping up with what the KT266 PC2100 setup is supposed to get.

Is this normal, or did I do something wrong?

Take synthetic memory benchmarks like Sandra have very little if anything to do with real world computer performance. In real world performance, the difference between a KT333 running on DDR333 RAM and a KT266A running on PC2100 isn't even noticable. The only way you'll get any king of noticable performance benefits from a KT333/DDR333 combo is in overclocking, as it gives you the extra motherboard/RAM oc'ing headroom you need to push the CPU to its limits (which, with an Athlon XP chip isn't hard 🙁).
