just got a 400SC...

1. it currently has 2x 256MB sticks. can I add a 512MB stick in the third slot, for a total of 1GB?
2. does the additional 512MB sticks need to be the same speed as what's already in there? same brand? will it degrade performance if I don't?
3. is it ok to mix ECC and non-ECC RAM?

Look here

And search here

1. You should be able to add one stick of 512MB. You will not be able to run in dual channel mode.

2. Preferrably you want the same speed. If you run less than speed of your existing RAM it will drop the speed of your existing RAM to your new lower speed RAM which will degrade your performance.

3. I believe you can mix ECC and non-ECC. Are you sure your existing RAM is ECC?
