I'm 19 now, and I finally "work" a lot. Wasn't much opportunity previously because of the small town I live in... anyway... Now, drive about 45 minutes away, and work in a larger City. I work about 6 days a week, and for the moment, I find that very tolerable. I almost like it..
Even more hours are available if needed, and I like being able to work more if i'm motivated too. ($ Time and a half increase doesn't hurt...)

I work nights.. graaaaveyard. And, I like it... its quiet, less traffic, less calls, very casual.. can read, play web games.. :)

Question:

1. I'm curious to know what kind of hours everyone works? - Do you have a typical 9 - 5pm, w/ Saturday and Sunday off.. Or?

2. How many hours do you put in a week? Is it fixed, or flexible?

3. How long does it take you to get to work and how do you get there?

I'm just curious what everyone does now that I do so much of this "working". (s'about time)

Work ~20 hours per week and have 26 hours of class per week. All my hours are scheduled between classes so I don't work weekends or past 5pm on weekdays.

45 hours a week full-time website design / tech person for www.LogoSoftwear.com
8 hours a week consulting e-commerce application stuff
2 - 8 hours a week website design for www.AcademicKeys.com

I like it, but I miss actually doing physical work. Like all my time is just spent sitting at a desk.

I worked Graveyard at FedEx for a while loading trucks, LOVED it, no people to deal with, was fun, physical work, bummer I live too far away now.

1) 40+ hours a week. i'm salaied, so if I neeed to put in more, I do. I get in at 7am usually and work 8+ hours. Sometimes I get in at 6 am. Saturday and Sunday are off unless work needs to be done or don't have my 40 in for whatever reason.

2) I have flex-time. I can work strange hours, so I can do 9 hour days monday to thursday and leave after 4 hours on Friday. Works great in the summer! Actually, i nthe summer, I do the Sunday->Thursday thing once in a while. That way I have 3 day weekends for road trips with no vacation being used up.

3) 10-15 minute drive and drive my truck ('96 GMC 1500). Want a cheap fuel efficient fcar to drive to work, but that's way off. Usually a 15-20 minute drive home do to increased traffic (7 am versus 3 PM:))

Contract work... I have a regular contract every Thursday though. I can work as many/few hrs as I like. I can work 2-3 or 6-7. I try to do 5-6 each time, so I actually make some $.

Lately I've been doing 3-7 hours on Sat, but it's not guaranteed that I do that every weekend. Also I have the odd client here and there, which makes me $30-60 per shot. Then there's sales I make for my friend who owns a business, which will make me a monthly figure.

Edit: I like what I do, it's different bits all over the place, and it doesn't get boring that way :D

I work from about 7am to 4pm M-TH and 8am-5pm on Fridays

I usually put in a little over 40 hours a week and they are fairly flexible because of my school schedule which is about 5pm-10pm M-TH

It takes me about 1hour to get to work then another hour from work to school then another hour from school back home.

Usually 0800-1700. Sometimes I start my work day at 0700 and end at 2200-2300hrs. Monday - Friday with 1-2 weekends a month of work.

I usually put in 50hours but it does very up to 80+ hours a week.

It takes me 30-40 minutes to drive to my normal duty station. Less if I'm on the road and less than a minute if I'm in the field environment.;)

Software developer (respondus.com), salary, 40+ hours/week roughly 9 AM - 6 PM but with some flexibility (and occaisional nef breaks I make up for later :) ).

Plus some consulting including web programming (e.g. analysis part of microcase.com) and some InstallShield setup building.

I've been coding since age 15 (started with freelance work for Adventure International before college) and still enjoy it, but I've worked for smaller companies where I get to be lead developer on a medium-sized project rather than a tiny cog in a giant software engine.

My hours are flexible to a certain extent.

I generally work starting at 7-9am and end at 4-5pm.

Standard 5-day week

I take my car to work and it usually takes about 20-30minutes.

1. Typically 9 to 5 hours for me. Weekends off (although I occasionally make a brief appearance at the lab to check on something).

2. 40 hours per week. Sometimes a bit less or more.

3. Takes me 30 min to get to work by bicycle (approx 8 miles each way). Intown traffic is so bad here that it actually takes longer by car since you spend so much time stuck in gridlock.

I work approximately 18 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days in a year. I live, breathe, sleep and dream about my business. I sometimes consider it a hobby since I enjoy working so much, yet get paid to do this.

My hours are pretty much set, except for maybe an hour off here and there. I wake up 7:30am, walk to my office by 8am and leave at 10-10:30pm. Sometimes, my meetings start at 11pm, so I sleep in a tad bit to get the minimum of 6 hrs of sleep.

I work at home for the time being until we move to an office 20 minutes away in 4th quarter.

7-4pm. I work 40 hour weeks in the summer and am on casual status when in school (I can work as little or as much as I want, no set schedule). Officially we are closed weekends but I can come in and work if I want to. Usually I'll come in on a weekend to work on a personal project. Takes about 15-20 minutes to drive to work, 10 miles each way.

1. I work usually when I wake up, work for as much or as little as necessary depending on the day, work-related errands and what commitments I've made, and usually "work" until about 9 or 10 at night. I take frequent breaks throughout the day to do whatever, go see friends for beers and tacos, take my daughter to the beach or the park, sneak in an afternoon grind session with the wife, see a movie at the theater, nef on ATOT, etc.

2. Although when I'm at home I'm always in the work mode I probably don't really work more than 30 hours a week, if that. My work is taking care of my online businesses, which don't require too much time, and a bit of web development and consulting.

3. I own a very small business which I operate from my home. No commute and great benefits. :)

I'll give you 2 scenarios.

Industry:
When I was your age, I was doing tech support for an International Corp. Then I was working from Noon-8:30pm 5 days a week with occasional OT (time and a half) and 30 min lunches. It was a good job, was laid back most of the time, but could get extremely busy. People were getting laid off every now and then and I was always afraid that I wouldn't find a job that would pay me enough around here to support myself with my schedule (in school at the time). It was a 9 mile drive to work...about 10 minutes with traffic and lights.

Government:
Now, I'm doing server administration for a University. 40+ hours a week. 7am-5:00pm with laid-back lunches. I am still taking classes and they sort of mold into my day. I generally don't work on weekends, but do sometimes to catch up or whatever. I can work from home if need be through Citrix and remote consoles. Hours are flexible. It's about a mile to work. I can drive it in less than 5 minutes with traffic lights.

To those of you who can bike or foot your way to work... you're lucky.
I used to bike 8km to and from work 5 days a week. (winding, rolling backroads...) - Miss it very much..then again, winter isn't far off.

I have to say, for someone in my position (and yours, obviously) that, is a sweet, sweet deal.
I still need to go to post secondary at some point in the near future... cool job and getting credits too. :)

Psst, hey DaveSimmons, if you're company ever requiree some graphic development for their software... I like making interfaces :)
I'll show you when I dig it up.. (portfolio in the sig) ;)

I work 40 hours per week.

I currently work 7am-3:30pm M-F and never work weekends. Flex-time is available...

Work is 10 miles from my home. It generally takes 20 minutes to get there driving on the interstate the entire way. My apartment is right off of I-12, my job is right off I-110 (Baton Rouge).

I am still amazed how backed up the interstate gets traveling through Baton Rouge. It can take twice as long to get home sometimes due to the I-10/I-110 bottleneck. I believe Baton Rouge is the only place with an interstate that merges all eastbound traffic to one lane. It is a severe bottleneck between 4pm-6pm.

I work 40+ hours/week. I'm also salaried, so 8-5 is expected, although some mornings I have meetings at 6am. This week, I had a 11:00pm-12:30am meeting, due to international co-workers. We don't count lunch as a paid hour, so we work 8-5 to get 8 hours in. I wish I could come in at 9. So you 9-5'ers only put in 7 hours of work per day?

I bought a place right next to where I work, so I drive less than 1 mile. With morning traffic, it still takes me 5 min to get to work.

I'm an Industrial Engineer. I design our warehouse layouts, and make sure we have the correct equipment. I also manage our inventory and headcount levels.

My hours revolve around the needs of my department, they aren't fixed,I work a lot of nights and weekends and a lot of OT.

I should add here that I knew my work life would be rather crazy going in,my company also pays me well,my bennies are good and the working enivornment is quite pleasant. You aren't rude and difficult with co-worker where I work, not if you want to remain employed,so everybody goes out of their way to be nice to each other and it translates into an awesome job overall :D
