Hey, folks

I want to trade my IDE DVD+RW drives for SATA drives
Can I?

This is my setup:

Also, I'm curious about adding a couple more HDDs.

Thanks in advance

yes... you can use them for anything SATA. I'm currently using the orange ones for RAID0 with a couple of raptor drives. and i'm using one of the other ones for a sata DVD DL burner.

Thanks for the info
The fact that you are using raid on the orange SATA hook-ups doesn't quell my doubt, though. Have you been able to run SATA non raid on those connections? Thanks in advance.

You will only be able to use one of the two orange SATA ports in a non-RAID setup. Asus has put the Silicon Image controller (underneath the Asus EZ backup gold plate) on one of the Intel ICH SATA ports. I am running one of my hard drives on one of the orange ports. You certainly should be able to plug one of your hard drives into the orange ports, but I am not entirely sure if an SATA optical drive will work, so I would just switch one of your HD.

THe configuration of the SI controller can be a bit tricky and you need to place a single HD on Port 1 to get it to work correctly.
