Questions about Overclocking for Doom 3!

I am new to overclocking but I have done a little research. I still have a few questions. I just bought a Geforce FX 5700LE which seems to run at 250chip and 400mem. I just wanted to get a little more performance out of it. I had heard from some forum that you could overclock the card to the 5700 Ultra specs which are 475chip and 900mem. To me that seems like a huge jump. First of all I just wanted to get the opinion of someone else. As of right now the only program I have for overclocking is Powerstrip(which costs like $30 to buy). I was wondering if there is a better more inexpensive way to overclock? Also when overclocking I want to make sure its not getting to hot so I needed to know what a safe temperature is and how to monitor my video temp. I have an Epox EP-8RDA3i mobo.
