Questions about oc'ing my PIII 1000

I just ordered a PIII 1000 to replace my Celeron 633@950.

I'm starting to have some second thoughts about purchasing this chip since if I can't oc, I'm not sure I'll see a big difference from where I'm currently at .

I'll be using an Abit BX6 board (rev. 1) and here are some concerns:

1. I'm not absolutely sure the board will support this chip.

2. FSB speeds are limited to 112 and 133.

3. Highest voltage I can go to is 1.85v.

Does anyone know for certain if this board will support the PIII?

What are reasonable expectations for overclocking?

BX6 supports PIII-600 (Katmai) according to newest Bios.
Katmai has Vcore = 2.0V (default).
And PIII-1000 (100/133 MHz FSB)? You must try it.

is it the 100 or 133fsb version?
some of the cDO stepping 100fsb version will do 133fsb@1.85-1.95V

BX6 rev 1 does not have a 1/4 PCI divider, only 1/3. 133 MHz FSB would be 44.33 MHz PCI. Not a good idea. 112 FSB is your best bet.

As a practical matter, will I see much of an improvement versus my Cel 633@950?

If I raise the fsb to 112 will I fry PC100 memory or will I have to use PC133?

Quality PC100 should do 112 easily. You should notice a decent speed improvement especially apps that can use the additional cache such as Photoshop.
