Questions about new system....

I just purchased a new machine and there's two things I'm confused about;

I have chipset drivers from Asus and from AMD - which one's should I use? The Chipset drivers look to cover similar things, like AGP, so I'm not sure whether to install both or not. (Although the ASUS drivers are for the VIA KT8000 chipset and the AMD one's are for the AMD-8000 chipset).......?

also,

I purchased dual channel OCZ ECC reg ddr 400 ram - and the company I bought the computer from installed the ram (2x512) with one ram chip in each bank - or not beside each other. Is that correct? Does it make a difference?

Thanks very much,

Laurence

Your computer uses a VIA chipset, so use the VIA 4-in-1 drivers from here (Asus's own drivers are derived from these, but are usually a little older).

If you don't have a hardware firewall (cable/DSL router) between your new computer and your broadband modem, then be aware of the likelihood of your computer being attacked by worms when its network drivers are installed and its network jack comes online. More info on that here, hopefully in terms that aren't too hard to follow :)

As for the RAM, for dual-channel operation it does matter which banks the modules are in, and you can confirm that they're in the proper banks for dual-channel mode by consulting your motherboard manual. Asus always covers that. I'd look it up for you myself but I don't have a copy of that manual.
