So I'm building a extreme budget pc for my friend intended for gaming. I purchased IB 3450 since it was only 199.00. Since it has a locked multiplier. Can I still OC it moderately? And I plan on using the stock cooler. Any thoughts about limitations here?

Other build specs
Asrock z77 pro
1600 8gb ripjawz
Antec 650 watt psu
Sapphire 6870

Thanks ahead of time for the advice.

Should have just bought a 2130 off of ebay for 119.99 and to answer your question. No you cannot overclock it. Non K models cant be overclocked

Ok well at least it will comply better with the smaller psu. But thanks
for the response Don. Tell me if wrong but I thought the X## just couldn't go past a certain number? I'm kinda new to OC btw. But k models are just not OCable at all?

Actually if the cpu has turbo option , which this one does, it has limited overclocking.
Plus this is a quad core.

If you don't have a K in your product name then your part is either partially or fully locked. Although this doesn't apply to any of the CPUs launching today, Ivy Bridge chips without support for turbo are fully locked and cannot be overclocked.
If your chip does support turbo boost, then you can overclock via increasing turbo ratios by as much as 4 bins above their standard setting. For example, the Core i7 3550 has a max turbo frequency of 3.7GHz with a single core active. Add another four bins (4 x 100MHz) and you get a maximum overclock of 4.1GHz, with one core active. The other turbo ratios can also be increased by up to four bins.
