Questions about Intel D865GBF MOBO

Hello

I have the INtel D865BGF motherboard and a Lian LI 65 PC Case and Antec 430W True Power supply.

Here are my questions

1) I see no place on the motherboard where I can connect the PC Speaker connector? (Nothing in Motherboard specs etc..)

2) The motherboard specs says to connect the power LED to a 2 pin connector, mine is 3 pins(from case), can I use the ALT power LED connector as mentioned in on the motherboard. Also is the white wire always + or -?

3)I have two 2.0 complaint USB front panels, which are two sets of wires. There are two spots on the motherboard where I can connect these. The USB wires from the front panel say VCC, DATA -, DATA +, Ground, and Shield. The other just has VCC, DATA -, DATA +, Ground. The motherboard specs do not really help...Can you guys assit...

4)I see the 12v PS connector on the otherboard..Do I have to connect the corresponding conection from my Antec power suppy? I have build many AMD systems in the past, this is the first time in a long time I am installing a INTEL system from Sratch.


Any help would be great!

There isn't one. The board has it's own built-in speaker. You can see it's location if you look at the pdf manual. It's on page 14 and it's item "W" right on the front edge of the board. This speaker handles all the warning beeps and normal POST beeps.

Yes you can use that connector. The green wire should be "+" so try it that way first, but it's no real big deal, just flip it around the other way if it doesn't light. The same thing applies to the HDD LED connector. If you connect it with the orange wire as "+" and it still doesn't light, just flip it around the other way. The power switch and reset switch connector orientation doesn't matter, the switches will work no matter which way they're plugged ito the header.

The connector diagram for the front panel USB connectors is shown on page 82 of the pdf manual. The shield line on the first connector doesn't need to be connected, it'll just hang out in the air when you pluf the connector into the mobo header. Note that the front panel "VCC" connector is the equivelent to the "+5VDC" pin on the mobo and the rest of them should be self-evident.

Yes, you definitely need to plug that aux 12V connector into the mobo. The P4 CPU gets it's power from the 12V line and that connector give the board the extra 12V current that it needs.

Have fun with your Intel build, you'll find that it's a wonderfully fast and stable board!

Your info is great! Thanks again, at least I hooked up the USB connections right. If I run into anymore trouble/questions, can I email you or Privite message you..I do not suspect I will, but you never know.

I remember the old INTEL systems. Just snap in the CPU, memory, done!

This mobo doesn't have built in Firewire does it? I haven't had time to read through the manual on the included CD.

No, but at least one of the other similar models Intel makes does.

BTW, I assume that it's impossible to OC with any Intel boards, right?

Mostly correct, but at least a couple of the 875/865 boards have what Intel calls "burn in mode". This lets you OC up to 4% in 1% increments. There are still no Vcore or Vdimm adjustments available though, FSB increase only.

According to the manual, my D865GBF has it too, but it's gone in the latest BIOS update. Now only the graphics core can be bumped. I wonder if they made that change to all models?
