I know this is way off topic but I really don't know what to do, I tried asking people and looking up the web and can't seem to get a clear anwser. Basically, my car was parked somewhere and got bumped. There are not dents on the car but a good part of the paint was taken off my bumper. I have a feeling it might be my neigbor but I have no proof so it won't do any good to go to the police. I am only 40% sure its them. I really don't want to pay for the paintjob because its pearl paint which can be costly for a college student barely making it. Here is my question. If I report this to insurance I know they will pay for it but will they raise my rates? Do deductibles apply even if you are not at fault? If my rates will raise and there is a deductible it will probably be in best interest to fix it myself right? This is a very bad situation, that car means a lot to me. What should I do? I have full coverage but I don't want to ask the insurance yet until I learn more about my options.

i do believe the deductible applies even if your not at fault.

The deal with the deductible is that upto that much you pay then they pay.

As for insureance increasing, depends on the car, model and the insurance company.

Any time you file a claim against an insurance company they will raise your rates.
Time to do a cost/benefits analysis,do you really have to get a new paint job or can you just repair the paint missing off the bumper?

Dude, you need a better insurance company. I've had three claims on my ins. company for auto accidents, two involving deer hits with over $3K in damages, and have yet to see my premiums rise one penny. Actually, my rates have steadily declined over the years. Thank goodness for USAA.

I can only speak for State Farm. Vandalism has zero deductible. The Ins Co pays 100%.

My rates will not go up, but if you just buy the cheapest insurance, some base the low rate on you not having ANY claims.

There is some white paint on my neighbors car(my car is white), but she the thing is she always hits the wall so it might be that. Will the police bother in investigating and checking if the paint on the bumper matches the paint on my car?

Only if you murder her and they are looking for a motive. Otherwise, it's not worth their time.

Why don't you just ask your neighbor?

"Sup B!tch, accident?" as Konichiwa would say. :)

I would ask, since she hasn't mentioned anything and I doube she has insurance I highly doubt she will confess. How much would it cost for a good pearl paint for a bumper?

You have to notify the police and make a report... They have ways of finding if your neighbor did it (taking paint samples from your car, and seeing if it matches your neighbors).

Hey, HyTek how sure are you that the police are willing to do that? That would be great, problem is there already bunch of scratch marks because of her driving. I think im going to ask the police to do it.

The police did it when a snow plow hit my mail box, lol! They took paint samples... And then another time they did it for a car that slid down my road and hit my mailbox, to confirm they actually hit it.
