Questions about Ghost, Newbi Here!

I just purchased Ghost not the newest version though. I have always heard of its excellent capabilities so I bought it. But I don't really know how to use it or really what it can do.

I would like to burn a copy of my harddrive onto a cdr so if i want to restore my system i can just put the cd in. Or partition my harddrive and burn a copy of my default drive to the partition that I will use for emergency so if something goes wrong with my default drive i can just format it and copy my backup (emergency) drive to the default drive.

Also if you know of a website that can teach me how to use it would be great. Or if have other suggestions for Ghost please let me know.

If you only have one harddrive to work with, here is what I believe you should do:

1. Partition on format your HDD leaving ~1.5GB of space free.

2. Install your OS, programs etc.

3. Defrag your C drive in safe mode (Thanks Modus for the tip, reakky sped things up for me!😉)

4. Boot the computer with a floppy containing GDisk (comes with Ghost), Format and Ghost.

5. Use GDisk to create an extended partition as well as logical out of your ~1.5GB remaining disk space.

6. Format the drive and run Ghost (Partition -> Image) and place your .GHO on your new partition.

7. Boot into the OS again and burn your .GHO to a CDR (preferrably using your Floppy used as boot image for your CD.

Also, you'd be better off to have both a copy on CDR as well as your HDD if it crashed on you.

Check the Symantec FAQ and Knowledge Base for more info on this (or post a reply🙂)
