Questions about formatting and OS install

I'm getting a new hard drive for my computer, and I am going to make it the primary drive. I plan to start over and install Windows 98SE. Where can I find instructions on how to do this?

I'm assuming that Windows 98SE is more solid than Windows Me. I just hear of a bunch of problems with Windows Me.

A quick seach on GOOGLE under 'hard drive partitioning' should do the trick. The basic idea to make things easier for you should the drive fail is to have a minimum of two separate partions: one, for the OS and your installed programs, and two, for your data. If the OS/programs partition ever gets corrupted you jsut do a quick reinstall to that partition and you stil have your data, not that you shouldn't back your data anyway.

MaximumPC did an article about this very thing a ways back. You shoudl definitely read it for it will discuss partitioning and other variable syou shoudl consider since you are starting from a 'fresh install'. The article is HERE!

PS: Don't get intimidated, it is really easy to do.

before you begin, make sure you have a DOS boot disk with the program
FDISK and Format on it.

1. make sure you install the new drive correctly (jumper setting etc)
2. boot via boot disk or Windows CD
3. partition the drive (using FDISK)
4. format your partition(s)
5. install windows

people have different opinions regarding win98se and winME
just use whatever you feel more comfortable. they both work fine.
