alright so I've got a few questions here, I'd appreciate any answers that you guys may have.

q1: I'm getting a true430 antec ps, anyone know how much air the fans in the ps moves and how loud it is?

q2: just got a swifty, 462-u and my non-overclocked 1600xp is running at 55 idle and 62 under load. now my room is rather hot and I do not have good circulation of air because of missing side panel. the fan on the heatsink is pushing about 32 cfm. a new fan is inorder but would this be good enough? or should I go for a tornado?

Hey there,

This is just a little long BUT, I feel the info will greatly help you out :D

The true power from Antec is very quiet I will give it that. To give an example I put my ear next to the exhaust fan
and I had a semi hard time hearing it. BUT and I mean BUT, there is a down side. Antec has great reliable and quiet
power supplies and this is not the prob. The prob is with their fan design with the TP power supply. In Antecs
attempt to make a virtuously quiet PS they cut WAY BACK on the CFM of the AIR FLOW. The other bad thing is
it dumps alot of hot air directly on top of your HS depending on where it is. I will most likely have to put
a side fan in to blow DIRECTLY on the HSF just to keep it cool. REMEMBER, your HS will only be as cool as
the air it uses. As far a voltage and all that it's great. :)

With this though you have 3 options:
1) Add 1 or 2 fans to make up for the extra heat is makes or
2) Modd the PS with different fans (Wouldn't recommend this)
3) Get a different PS that may be louder but cools better.

Oh another thing is the True Power PS has certain connectors that are only for fans. In other words
these are the ones that it uses its LOW NOISE technology to control the CFM of the other case fans
based on the case temps. I am only baffled by this IDEA:
IE: If you use a fan that uses high RPM to keep your case cool then it cools down RIGHT ??
Well, as soon as it cools it slows the RPM down since it gets cooler. Then your case temps
go right back up........you see this is an endless cycle of increasing and decreasing temps and you never
get the potential COLD temps you want.

Oh BTW.......sometimes places will have extra side panels for sale.....be sure to check around. :)

Hope that helps a little........sorry for the length :(

hey thanks for the reply.

I do know about the fan only power plugs, I do not plan on using it.

by the way you're describing it, it sounds like the ps sucks air from outside and dumps in in the case? that's weird 'cause all the ps I've seen so far draws air from inside the case and dumps it out..

I'm not worried about dumping hot air into the case 'cause my new case sx1030 has 9 fans total plus a direct duct for the cpu fan.

I agree with you on the endless cycle of turning up and down of fan according to temp. it's kinda stupid, that's what my rheostats for.

anyway, thanks for the reply, I will check to see how hard it'd be to change the fan or direction of air flow of the fans when it comes in this week. oh by the way, I did email Antec about the ps fans, they have no idea. go figuer.

Hey there,

Sorry if I confused you. The Antec TP Power Supply "DOES" draw air from the inside of the case and push it out.
It's just the fact that it creates so much heat that it warms the air inside the case causing you temps to rise. Since the fans
inside the PS don't really pull the air through that hot air just sits and GETS HOTTER AND HOTTER AND SO ON.
Like it shows it has 2 FANS: 1 on bottom and 1 on the back.

That's all sorry, to confuse you like that .....MY BAD ;)

I don't know where you guys get your information but I have an Antec 1080B case with a 420W power supply and my case temp is 30C. I don't consider that to be high. Perhaps I am confused on what constitutes high temps.

Hey there,

Well......I get my info from SHEER experience with MY Antec Power Supply. I understand your case temps are
30C.....so are mine. The prob is not necessarily with that. It is with the temps on the CPU. Oh and BTW I am talking
about a TP 430 Watt Power Supply not a 420Watt. This model is supposed to run VERY HOT and dissipate less heat than other PS
because they run low RPM fans that don't create alot of noise. Ask anyone who has a True Power Antec supply and they
will most likely agree that the decrease in noise is at the cost of increased temps.
Like I said before I have this PS and also have a case temp of 30C, but let me ask you this.....What does it do for
your CPU that is right below it ??? Is it really running as cool as it could being right below a furnace ??

That's all

SladeZero ;)
