Questions about duo core and dv5000t

I'm looking to purchase a new notebook computer and have been looking at the duo core processor capable units. I understand the hp dv5000t is not a gaming notebook which is fine. I might run some demos of things here and there so I'm planning on selected the 128MB geforce go 7400 at time sale. I do have a question about the actual performance increase I'll get from upgrading from the base T2050 1.6 ghz duo core to the T2400 1.83 ghz duo core for another $75. I haven't been able to find any specific benchmark scores for one versus the other but how much of an actual performance boost will I notice??? If it is minimal than I'll just keep the $75 as I'm trying to keep the system total to $850 or less before tax.

Btw yes I have looked at Dell's e1505's which has a very comparable setup for about another $40 more with 256MB ATI Radeon x1400 and I'm really on the fence between the too ... leaning towards the dv5000t as it seems to be the favored notebook for better construction.

Anyhow is there going to be an extremely large performance boost going from the T2050 to the T2400? Thanks.

There are no tests currently, but I would guess-timate the performance to be around 10%. My reasoning behind this is not only do you get a decent clock speed bump (230MHz), but also the FSB get's bumped up. The Yonah core is already data-hungry and a 667MHz FSB is decently adequate, but reducing it to 533MHz chokes off the bandwidth even more.

My rule of thumb when it comes to configuring a CPU is this: get everything else you want in the notebook, and spend the rest of your budget on the CPU. If you've got the $75, I'd get the T2400.

You can also later upgrade to a higher model Core Duo if you wish.

That is what I thought more or less. Actually I've been trying to split hairs over $30-$75 in price and for no reason. I want this to be on the edge of what I can afford with some room for the future. I'm looking at the hp dv5000t with dT2400 duo core 1.83 ghz, 1 gb ram, 128mb nvidia geforce go 7400, 80gb 5400 rpm sata, 15.4 wxga brightview, 8x dvd-r/rw, wireless 802.11a/b/g, f380 all-in-one, 6 cell for $850 before tax and free shipping. Not a hot deal but seems to be decent.

I was undecided between dell and hp but after checking the prices again this morning dell's price went up over $100 for the same configured e1505 machine. Looking through the muck I see they still have a similar offer on their 6400 like configured to the above for $884 without a printer. I don't need another printer but I had planned on ebaying to recover some of the purchase price (approx $40). I don't have to deal with rebates with Dell versus HP but seems to be a general consensus that since Dell has become bigger they have cut back on the quality of the build in the mid range notebooks (6400 & e1505).

Any glaring reasons why I should forgo my decision to purchase now from HP versus dell? I know I could probably wait till this weekend to wait for the paper circulars for B&M deals but when I spoke with the HP sales representative he said they offer 21-day hassle free return from when I receive it to return it if I'm unsatisfied and there is no return shipping charges. He also said if their prices change (as in go down) on like configured setup they offer 30 day price guarantee, just have to call and notify and they will credit accordingly. Again, any strong thoughts that I should wait or go with a diff manufacturer? Thanks.

Get the 12-cell. The extra money is worth it for 50%+ more battery life!

I wouldn't bother with B&M or Dell at this point personally.
