questions about dual-booting XP and 98

I want to dual boot 98 and XP, and I have a few questions.....

(I'm runnnig XP now)

Do I have to format before I can partiton of some gigs and put 98 on?

Does it matter which is intalled first?

and, um, i think thats it. thanks

it's better to have installed 98 before XP though it's not impossible to do it vice versa!
is your XP on fat32 or NTFS?

You don't have to format if you use something that does nondestructive partitioning like partion magic (vs. 7 is xp compatiable, i find it easier just to use the dos disks the setup program creates rather than use the program under windows.) if you want to access an ntfs partiton under 98, you'll need a utility like the one made by sysinternals or something similiar (if there even is an alternative.) good luck.
