Questions about Drive Selectors

Trios -> Trios website.

Troyka -> ComBox

Romtec(trios) seems to be hard to find, and maybe the company isn't really operating anymore???

I'm interested to hear from you guys as to if you've ever used either solution. I'm kicking around the idea of using one of these vs using swappable drive trays.

why do you want to use this? Does it allow you to switch OSes on the fly? XP <--> Linux at the flick of a switch??

trios is still sold if nothing else by TigerDirect

TigerDirect.com

still though... why do you want this? Unless you have multiple users (and even then it's not needed), it's not really necessary. A software bootloader will allow you to boot from multiple OS's if that's what you want. Many are free... like GAG

TigerDirect doesn't carry the trios anymore.

There are numerous reasons to want to do this... security being one of them, viruses another. Yes... I run multiple OSes now using VMware -and run them concurrently on the same hardware I might add. -now that is taking it to the next level my friend.

I've done enough multi boot systems in my day --enough to know what horribly can go wrong. I don't want to take the time to mess with that anymore.... Alas... Different preferences for different people. My way makes better sense for me vice versa you... 🙂

No--you have to shut down and select a different drive. The selector isolates the drives from one another for better security, maintenance, reliability.

Looks to me like Romtec has folded\. I have two of them - one in each computer, and they allow me to select from up to three different drives. It has provided me with an almost perfect backup system - my drives are identical, and I clone them weekly. It something goes wrong with some softwrae - virus, or whatever, I simply reboot and switch to another drive. Then when i have timne, I reclone the bad one from a good one.

Sorry to see them go - I guess not enough sales. I got mine direct from Romtec. I suspect that now they can only be obtained from E-Bay and the rag pickers. 🙂

What I really liked about the Romtec was the slave drive option. I found some places still selling them, but not sure of the reputation of those sites.....No biggy.
