I've decided that for my first credit card I will be going with Discover. I received in the mail the other day a "Special Student Offer" to apply for the Discover Texas Card. On the picture of the card it says Discover Classic. By looking at the website, the only two cards I can find info on are the Discover Platinum and the Student Discover card. With all these names but only two cards on the Discover website it has me confused. Am I applying for the Discover student card of a regular Discover Classic?

There are only two cards, Classic and Platinum.

Generally speaking, student credit cards just have different financial qualifications (the card/account itself really isn't any different). Most students have little or no actual income, but get plenty of finances from their parents.

That's why banks target college students with credit cards. They want to hook you on debt as early as possible, on your parents' dime.

I have a Discover card, and use it regularly. I wouldn't say it's the best card out there, but it's good enough that I'll use when I can. Whatever card you get, good luck learning how to manage debt (i.e. the best way is no debt at all). It's really quite simple, but _many_ Americans can't do it: don't spend more than you can afford to.
