I was thinking about purchasing this camera. Does anyone here own this model? If so do you like it? What are the pros/cons of this camera.. and are there any better cameras for less money? I am not a high tech photographer.. I just need something to keep up w/ my 16month old son and to take on vacations ( I travel a lot ) I really like this camera and want to make sure the reviews I've read are acurate. Thanks.

I have a Canon D-Reb (300D) and my friend has the Nikon D50. Picture quality is pretty comparable but I would buy the D50 if I had to make the decision today. I think it's the best camera for the money right now for whatever my amateur opinion is worth. The only thing that should probably push you more toward, say, the latest Canon model is if you have a large investment in Canon glass.

yeah, another shameless plug would be my photoblog (see sig)

mike's got a lot of portraits on his site, so you should check those out.

you'll probably want to invest in a few lenses such as a portrait lens and a zoom wide angle lens. nikon is releasing a 18-200 in late december which should be ideal, unless you're looking for something bigger. :)

the portrait lens that i have is a f/1.8 50mm that i got for about $100 from b&h.
