Questions about customizing the DF CLC

I want to know how to increase the number of structures that get downloaded during each set. It says that I can have up to 10000 structures downloaded. It also says that I can double the speed of the client if I use 128MB RAM as opposed to 25MB. They say to make these changes you have to edit a file and add to the script. I can't seem to find the file. I don't have a clue what to do. Can someone please explain what to do in a way better than it is explained in the read.me file. Thanks, I look forward to hearing from someone soon.

I use the service intall on my clients. To get the client to use additional RAM edit the service.cfg file and add "useram=1" to it. Should then read:

service=1
useram=1

😀

Thanks for the tip Crazee I will download that. I take it that lots of people use dfGUI. I had not heard of that application until now. Though I am relatively new to the DC scene. I hope that DF will not invalidate my structures because I use that program.

It won't effect the validity of your structures. All dfGUI does is act as a GUI front end for the DF CLI 🙂

Awww, don't tell me you're gonna take Crazee's easy way out. What ever happened to "old school" fun on the command line! 😛 😉

I only have 1 machine running Distributed Folding. I just used the secret command line option

run_really_really_fast=yes

^^ that only works for my handle though. I'll let you use it if you want! 😛

Answer one question for me: can you tell me how many structures per second your client is doing? 😉

No, but what fun is that? It's like knowing what's in your present before opening it! 😛

Actually your way is more like not knowing what is in your present even after opening it 😉 😛

Yeah, but I just look at it the next day and see if I liked it or not. 😉

I know, I know, not a very accurate way of monitoring your clients. I was just having fun, or something. I just wish the DF project had a SetiQ equal! 🙁 Or even SetiWatch with all it's slowness would be nice. 😉

I agree it would be great to have an easy to setup way to monitor each individual machine in a fleet

I am currently running at .09 structures per second with extra ram activated, however, that is with UD operating along side of it. When I snooze UD I can get anywhere from .11 to 2.8 structures per second. Kinda messed up right now. I have no where to move but up on the team chart.

For editing the file go to the directory where you installed the client. You'll notice that to run the client you run foldit.bat (on *nix foldit.sh). That's the file to edit. On windows machines, the line to edit is just a few lines into the file (you'll see it since it has a couple of -<letter(s)> options). On *nix machines, the line to edit is pretty near to the end, I think it's the last one in fact.

I'm using KDFold at work and home. It allows the monitoring of the current work but AFAIK nothing on the history or speed of them.
