I have heard the accelero s1 is the best when it comes to cooling. Compared to a zalman vf900 what would be the best to make my case not as hot? If I got the accelero s1 I would be adding a 120mm case fan

Your case is gonna be just as hot no matter what, unless you find some way to blow the hot air out of the case. The card will run 10* or so cooler with an accelero and 120mm fan, however, it's huge.

I run a VF900 on my GT, and never see loads above 63-65*C, idling around 40*C. This is much below stock and it stays silent, and only takes up one extra slot. An accelero with fan will take up 3.

Well ideally, the stock cooler would make your case less hot if you run it on full speed as all the air is dumped out the back.

Both accelero (with fan on it) and VF900 spit air out from the card in all directions, not all of it goes out. If you positioned a side fan or ghetto-rigged one in the back, that would help.

Well this is how the cost will break down for each:

VF900 I can get for about 25 after tax and shipping
Accelero S1 rev. 2 will cost 31 after tax and shipping + I have to buy a 120mm fan which are about 15 after tax (unless I can use an 80mm case fan)

If you have decent case flow, it doesn't matter. Yeah it's nice if a card doesn't dump heat inside the case, but if it does... literally a few cfm a minute of refresh would deal with it. But in most cases the PSU can't be trusted to pull hot air from the entire case, so you'll have to put some thought into placement, funneling, or just put enough cfm exit it creates a vacuum effect.

Just get a yate loon for 3.50-5.00 depending on vendor.

If you have the place to install it, the accelero S1 will cool your card very well. My 8800 gt had with stock 55 C idle and 86 C load. With the S1, a bios volt mod and overclock, I have 39 C idle and 52 C load, the room temperature being around 23 C. I also use the cheapest 120 mm fan I could find, dead silent too.

I guess the only thing that bothers me is that the cpu temp went up with 4 C, all that hot air from the cards cooler is sucked into the cpu heatsink, so the temperature increased. So, like others said, if your videocard cooler doesn't evacuate the hot air outside the case, the inside temperature will just get higher, but the card will be cooler.

i'm also wondering which cooler cools the GPU better..
vf-900 with max fan speed or Accelero S1 Rev 2.0 with 120mm Yate Loon Low Speed

I guess they should be pretty close, the S1 doing a couple of degrees better.

And being quieter with the cooler temps.

Quieter is doubtful. I can't hear my VF900 at max speed, even with the side of the case off. It may be a couple of degrees warmer than the accelero, but at those temperatures it doesn't matter.

yea i didn't like the A. S1 R2 because it takes up so many slots, especially if i put a 120mm fan on it. i'm afraid it'd be blocking my pci sound card
