Questions about cooling cases for notebooks.

My laptop is always on and it really gets hot sometimes. I am worried something might happen to it. So I am considering getting a cooling case for it. Does anyone have one of these for their laptop. Do they work and is it worth the $40? Any other ideas for helping my laptop cool down?
 
cooling case? do you mean a cooling pad?

If so, they seem to work best at idle temperatures; but under load the CPU is producing too much heat and it does not cool as well.

Clarify the type of laptop, size, and how you're using it
