questions about CD-R media

I have heard that not all CD-Rs work with all CD-RW drives. Is that right? I have definitely seen people have problems with some CD-Rs. What are good brands? Is Memorex good? What about Imation or Sony? Can you use 16X CD-Rs in a 32X burner (I know it's going to be slower, but it's still gonna be compatible, right?) I just bought a Cendyne 32X12X40 burner, and am looking for good CD-Rs to go with that. Probably 5 or so packs of 100 CD-Rs. Got any suggestions? Any place where I can find them cheap?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

these will go on sale tomorrow for $2.99 after rebate and Fuji have been know to be excellent media. WIth memorex I have seen 2 type 1 made in Japan the other in Taiwan. If it's made in Japan then get it.

I bought a 200-pack of cd-r media at our local OfficeMax store a while back for $20 bucks. They was selling items to make more room so I bought one. The brand name of the media is 'Prime Peripherals' which is a 16x media. Never had a problem with that media in my AOpen 12x10x32 burner. Below is another two type's of media I use in my burner also without problems.

Maxell CD-RW 650MB High-Speed (10x)
Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-R 700MB (16x)
