Ok, as most of you know I just bought a 95 Nissan Sentra GXE. So it has 4 speakers, 2 in the back & 2 in the doors. I'm guessing they are 30watts... So I need a cd player now, what do I get? I mean how many watts? I dont want to have to worry about blowing out the speakers.

Ok, the second thing is I will be getting two 600watt subs, how many watt amp do I need?

Since it doesn't sound like you're replacing your stock speakers, you need to find out what their resistance is (how many "ohms") they are. But, if you really don't care and aren't into high quality/high end sound, getting any head unit within say $200 or so should be decent, AND will actually make your stock speakers sound better. Don't worry about blowing them....I doubt they will as long as you're running less than 75 watts per channel (most cheaper head units are like 35-50 watts).

Regarding subs, well, depends on the company. JL always underates their subs. I'm running a 12W6 which is rated at 300 watts max with a 500 watt amp. I've seen higher. It depends on the quality. In general though, it all REALLY doesn't matter cuz it's going to get loud enough, trust me. So, if they are rated at 600, getting a 300 watt amp will be sufficient for decently loud sound. My single 12W6 is way way more than enough.

Hope this is a start.

MD.

So you are saying my amp has to be less than my subs? If I get 2 subs @ 600watts each, a 900watt amp should be ok?

See sig ;) hehehe

Your subs should handle more than your amp puts out, because the speakers really have no way of knowing not to take more than they can handle.

Go into to any car audio store and ask them to help set up a system... tell them you aren't planning on buying right now otherwise they might sucker you into paying their high prices, but they should be able to help you know what you need.

the store will try to feed you the "you need an amp that is more powerful than your speakers" line, but honestly, when you start talking about hundreds of watts, it doens't make any freaking difference. you will never run them loud enough for it to be a problem either way, especially if they are paired with factory speakers being driven by a headunit.
