Greetings,
I have owned one of the original AIW cards (4MB RAM I believe) and an AIW 9600XT... both long gone. I am looking at purchasing one of the new TV Wonder Elite's. It's nice they finally added hardware MPEG. FM support and MCE 2005 support are great also. I was looking to buy the PCI Express version, however, I can only find the PCI version available? Does anyone know where to get the PCI-E variant?
And now, the crazy questions...
Okay, I know the AIW used to use the standard analog Philips tuner, but the new Elite's use the new digital ATI 550 tuner. I am a little unclear on some stuff. I know that all TV tuners can 'accept/decode' standard analog cable. However, I am unclear about digital cable. My buddy has Charter digital cable... it needs to go through a cable box before his TV will 'accept' it. However, he can plug the digital cable (straight from outside) into his Haupphage (sp) MCE250 card, and decode it. Can the ATI TV Wonder Elite do this also, or would the signal have to go through a cable box first? Also... I know the Elite cannot decode DirecTV (straight from outside), however... if I would go through a satellite receiver first, then out to an Elite, could it accept the signal fine? I know it probably wouldn't be able to change channels. You would have to do this at the receiver itself. Is this true? Can someone shed some light on me here
-Thanks
