Questions about AM2 and Socket F

Ok right now I am running 939 setup. Rig in sig. Ive been debating on going to a newer platfrom ie: AM2. But how long is AM2 going to be around ? And what is the deal with Socket F ?

If I upgrade, I would prefer to keep the system for at least over two years. So will AM2 be around that long ? Should I go with Socket F ? Or is there something else coming out shortly. I don't know what to do. The biggest reason I want to upgrade is because of the DDR2 memory. I have a fantastic board now, A8R32-MVP Deluxe 939.

Please don't recommend anything Intel. And i'm not an AMD fanboy or anything, I have no problems with Intel, I just don't know anything about them. Ive used AMD all my life.

Socket AM2 motherboards will be compatible with the next AM2+ (Q3 2007; HT 3.0 & split power planes) and AM3 (H2 2008; supports both DDR2 and DDR3) processors. Of course these new processors will be limited to the specifications of Socket AM2 (HT 2.0, one power plane for both cores and memory controller, DDR2).

Socket F is designed for the sever platform. It supports registered DDR2 memory and multiple HT links for multiple processors.

So an AM3 cpu will work in a AM2 motherboard ? Or did I read that wrong ?

That is correct, the CPU will be backwards compatible with older chipsets.

Same with Socket F+ CPUs; they will work on current Socket F motherboards.

So I should be good for a few years minimum if I go with AM2 now ? Right now I have a single core cpu, and want to go dual core. But if I run dual core, I would like to have DDR2 memory. And that is only with AM2.
