Will this effect the performance of games?

It won't...because within the nvidia control panel you can tell it to use only your main monitor for gaming. The other one will lose video signal and go into standby. I don't know how ATI control panels this, but I'm sure there must be a way.

If you DO want to use both monitors during gaming, then yes, it will affect perfomance.

Very few games support multiple monitors (which is a shame). Otherwise, no effect on gaming.
