questions about ACPI

Well I'm having a IRQ conflict here between ACPI and my TV card. I'm thinking of disabling ACPI but before I do it, I have a few questions.
1) What benefits do I get if I enable ACPI ?
2) What is the advantages of ACPI compare to normal power management tool ?
3) Is it a must to enable ACPI ?
4) Am I going to miss any special/important functions if I disable ACPI ?

My motherboard's manual says acpi is not mature, better not to use it.
The only benefit of acpi I see is all pci devices will share one irq, no need to worry about not enough irq, and it claims it has better power management. I prefer to make each pci device having own irq, and I keep everything always on, so I don't use acpi.

sorry, my mistake, it's not from my mb manual, I read that from somewhere else, forgot the source.

the real reason to enable acpi is to use str (acpi s3) - the most advanced pm mode, cuts all power supplied to peripherals except memory, so saves all running application to memory,
and to use some os that support instant on or quickstart.

if you change from non-acpi to acpi or vice versa, you've to reinstall the os.
