I am thinking of buying an Abit IP35-E motherboard but I am concerned about the double post problem.

How severe is the double post problem on the Abit IP35-E motherboard? I've heard that it adds about 15 seconds to the boot time. Is this just on cold boot or is it also when restarting the computer? Does the hard drives also reboot on the second boot adding additional strain to the HDD? Is Abit working on a solution and if so when is it expected to be released?

Occurs only during cold boot. Doesn't affect RESTART from windows. This is normal behaviour with P965 and P35 chipsets...system checks hardware configuration. This start-stop behaviour adds about 14 seconds to the boot time. I also see this problem with the Asus P5B Deluxe. It appears that all components are temporarily disabled for a few seconds (my fan slows down, then comes back up to speed). I'm sure this will add a little more wear and tear to the HDD.

Some manufacturers are modding the BIOS to reduce or eliminate this problem. For example, the Abit IP35 Pro doesn't double post. I've already e-mail Abit for a patch with future BIOS. NO ECD.

Just bought and setup a system based around an Abit IP-35... read numerous review not sure how i managed to not hear about this double post issue previously - if i had i probably woul dhave gone for a different board choice :(

So, i would also luv to know if this is going to be fixed in a BIOS update anytime soon?

well if thats true thats nice to know... still a shame the board was released with such a common error - not a good PR move tbh
