Questions about a 5.1 Audio setup...

Hello, I've been trying to find some information on 5.1 speaker setups.
I have some hopefully simple questions, the first of which, is what should I purchase as a reasonably priced ($50-$70) setup with a Sub, and five speakers. I rather like creative products and my new soundcard (audigy 2 ZS Platinum) is a Creative and I figure they would just go hand in hand. I also wouldn't mind Altec Lansing, as I've always gotten good products from them. I typically try and stay away from Logitech when it comes to speakers or headphones, as I've had many bad experiences with them and heard even more. However, this was mostly related to headphones and headsets from Logitech. Does anyone have positive experiences with their speaker setups? Anyway, I've been currently looking at this set http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836116151
Opinions? As well, I'm willing to spend up to $130 *IF* the system is exceptional.

As well, how typically should a 5.1 system be setup? A center speaker behind my monitor (LCD) then the two fronts spaced roughly how far apart? Then, the rears: I have roughly about 69" (to my head) or so where I estimate the right rear would go if it were on a stand. 72" or so on the left if it were on a stand. With this setup, they'd be roughly 36" to 40" apart. Is this enough, or too much? If I were not able to purchase some speaker stands right away, the distances would be considerably less. Roughly 38" to 40" behind my head and roughly 33" to 34" apart.

I think that's all I can think of as far as questions go for now.

Thanks.

Speaker stands can be had for less than $20. They are regularly on clearance where I work. Also, they're not factored into my price. Thank you for your inane comments though 🙂

Here are some general guidelines for speaker placement as far as Dolby is concerned. For a gaming system if you have stands you might want to place the surrounds a bit more in back rather than to the side.

You don't want to have anything blocking the sound from your speakers. If "behind" the LCD does not mean blocking it, that's fine.

Getting a set of creative speakers to go with a creative soundcard will not make any difference vs. something else.
