I really don't know anything about networking . I am wondering how I would network my two computers together. Both are running on 56k modems. Will networking them split the connection into 2 parts, or will they both run at my normal 31,200 bps? Once networked, I hope to play online games such as Counter-Strike with my brother. Will my ping get even worse from the 2 being networked, or will it stay pretty much the same? My final question is what network card would you guys suggest for me?
Thanks for your help,

With the 2 PCs networked, you will have able to share 1 internet connection between the 2 PCs... so in other words, 1 of your PC will dial-up to the internet and both of them will be able to access that connection at the same time...

As for ping time, I am not sure if you are talking about playing thru the LAN, or play on the internet. If you are playing thru the LAN it will be very fast, but if playing on the internet, ping times may possibly be slower cuz you two are sharing the same 56k connection...

For network cards, depends on how much you wanna spend... if you have the money, 3com or Intel stuff would be great... however stuff like Netgear or Linksys that sells for $20 works just as well...
