I dont know a lot about networking so...

If i wanted to play Counter Strike on two computers at the sametime can I do this with just a router and a hub? Do you have to have two separate IP's to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, are you wanting to play head to head, or wanting to play the game on two different computers at the same time (not head to head, ie: both on internet).

first off if you just want one computer to play the other computer a cross over cable attached between the computers will work just fine and will be the cheapest solution, you could also buy a hub and hook a cable from each computer to the hub, and internet comming into the uplink port. What kind of internet connection do you have? this information is needed in order to figgure out how to get all computers on the internet via the one connection (do we even need this, only needed if both need internet play). each computer will always need their own unique IP address on an ip network, there are no exceptions.

If your running Cable, using the uplink port in a hub won't work.

If you want to run 2 people playing off the net with cable, you can either go with a router, or use a hub and ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). Easiest if using Win98SE or WinME.

If your running cable internet and need a little help setting up ICS, feel free to PM me and I'll give ya detailed instructions.
