Question - XP2100 (Palomino) or TBird 1.33 (unlocked, 9x166)?

How close are these two chips in performance? I've seen graphs that show the 1.4GHz TBird beating all non-Thoroughbred cores handily.

Now I know you're going to say "But M4H, you only have a 1.33 TBird!" Ah, young Grasshopper. This one is factory unlocked, and runs like a dream at 1.533 :)

So now I ask you - would a TBird @ 9x166 (1.5) be good competition for a Palomino 2100? I have both chips - the question is, which to install? :p

The 2100+ XP Palomino. It runs at 1.733Ghz Stock... and has core optimizations:

Hardware data pre-fetch & thermal monitor.
Compatible with both 3DNow! Pro and SSE multimedia instruction sets.

Those are good reasons :) The only real advantage the T-bird will have is the higher fsb so games and apps that can take advantage of the bandwidth may let it perform on a fairly equal footing with the stock Palomino but the Pally should take some FSB too and though it may not get to 166fsb multi locked it'll be enough to spank that 1.33@1.533 handily due to the combined fsb&clockspeed+the instruction set and features mentioned already ;) BTW, you knew almost all the 1.2-1.4 t-birds came unlocked right M4H :p ;)

Ah, almost all of them. :p

Unlocking doesn't stop the 1.4 TBirds from venting a few dozen degrees C of heat though :D

I've managed to uNf the Pally to 147FSB. I tried to push it over the 150 wall to get to the 1/5 divider, but it wouldn't go. :(
