Hey guys, I'm in need of some direction here. There have recently been so many "hot deals" on IBM lappys or Sony's or whatnot. Can you guys point me in some direction as to which to get?

Some specs that I'd like included are thus:

pIII 600+ (speedstep)
10gb+ HDD
cd-rom (integrated)
floppy (intergrated)
128mb ram (not necessary, since it's so cheap now)
tft (preferred 14"+)
modem (integrated)
NIC (preferred integrated)

Thank you!!

For $800-1100 you won't be able to get a Sony. Your best bet is an IBM Thinkpad. Why PIII600? My A21e has a celeron600 and it runs fine. Anyways, Dell might some good ones as well.

Stick with Dell or IBM. Not sure if you can get a PIII laptop for under $1100 with 14". An IBM Thinkpad A series with celeron600 and 15" runs about $1200 or so.

Make a payment plan with Dell. Get an Inspiration 8000. A PIII 1gig with a 15 inch screen and 32mbs of geforce to go vid chip. Then you'll have the ultimate desktop replacement. Also Toshiba has the geforce 2 go in their new line up. And Toshiba also has an excellent rating as does Dell and IBM. I would stay away from Sony. They always skimp on something. Anyway good luck in whatever you purchase. Late.

thanks guys, yeah i've been browsing ebay for the past 3 hrs looking at IBM lappys. i was thinking of going with an IBM because ppl say it's "sturdy." anyhow, i cannot decide there are just too many to go thru...
