Question: Which forum?

Alright, I'm about to make up a website - problem is, I'm a computer n00b, and the most-computer intensive programs I've used are Illustrator, Photoshop, and 3DStudio - meaning, I'm not into programming.

At all.

Anyhow, where would be the best place among the forums to ask, hypothetically, if a certain computer-illiterate person was to build a website if he already registered the domain?

BUt I pose to you a question - I'm not having trouble about any software in particular, but rather building a website - which I figure takes:

-Even deciding what I shoud do with the damn website
-Picking a host for the domain
-Picking a program for me to design the website
-Any others I might have forgotten

So, how hard is it to build a relatively ok-looking website for a computer n00b like me? I have frontpage, and I *could* get my grubby hands on Dreamweaver MX, and if at all possible, I'd like to add (to a limited degree) interactive content via Flash MX (or is that too ambitious for my 1st website?) - any thoughts?

I would just ask here.

Flash MX is VERY ambitious if you are trying to make anything semi decent looking, unless you're a photoshop god and can just rely on the graphics to carry you through.

if you are good w/ photoshop, u can set up a simple tabled layout and use photoshop to draw a nice lay out.

Score! Yes, I *AM* delusional enough to think that I'm actually good with Photoshop. 😀

Then it wont be a problem. The html tables can set up a skeletal structure for the site and u can rely on your photshop skills to make it appealing.

Find a decent host and experiment with Mambo.

Fantastico offers many Content Management Systems you may want to look at as well!

🙂

Agreed.

1) Register domain.
2) Find a web host, it all depends on your budget. How much can you afford?
3) HTML and content. Even for n00b's it can be cheap and easy to create your own web site.

First find a web host then proceed to step 3.

Actually, my school offers 10 megs of storage per student - I might just start with that and see if it needs any other setups . . ..

While I *do* appreciate al lthe help I'm getting so far (I think this is the *first* time so many people have offerd to help me out on a particular problem), I really need to get to bed - early to bed, early to rise - all that good stuff.
I'll be sure to let you guys know if I hit some kind of obstacle or something - being in a college-town, there's a lot of computer buddies that could help me out too.

Thanks for all the help on where to begin!
