Question when using Movers (your experiences?)

I've heard that some Moving Companies will sometimes end up charging you more and the invoice will be greater upon thier destination even though you already signed the Original agreement that stated the "END" price. They say pay the price or you don't get your stuff! I've read many articles on this.
With all the fine print and the words they run around in the contract, I can understand.

Wanting to know your personal experiences with a Moving Co. and what you ended up paying. Recommendations?

I don't have much to move.......... 20-30 mid sized boxes, couch, tv/ent center/components, Big Polk rti 12 speakers, computer/components, fridge, washer/dryer, 2-3 6ft cat condos. Leaving most items behind like the bed, dressers, lamps, etc.

Thanks 🙂

$3800 for a 3 bedroom house to move from GA to MI.

I read all the horror stories just like you have and from what I've gathered most of them are true. Stick with a big name company and you should be fine. We used Graebel and all went well.

What would one consider a big name company that's availble Nationwide? The only name I know of is VanLines and I really don't know anything about them except they're a fairly large outfit.

Moving from FL to TN btw.

If anyone else wants to ring in with thier experiences with Movers and/or Opinions.............. Please feel free to do so.

For me I move myself all the time. But if that is not a option then make sure they are bonded and are setup and registred with the state. Also just because you see a big name does not mean anything. They might juts be a franchise. So also check out the BBB (even though they are almost worthless)

I have never used a moving company without it being done by an employer.

As for experience (10+ moves,;civilian & military)
United/Atlas/Nationwide have been the best for me.
Only one box lost with Atlas and it was not the moving fault, but when in storage.

Lyons has been the only bad one.

With respect to charges; those will usually happen when the stuff is being packed and they use more supplies that anticipated. And that usually is pure profit. They will charge $10-$15 per box and $1-2 pre roll ot tape and $10 perset of packing paper.

Those are about a 300% markup from U-Haul and 500% from an office supply store.

Best thing is to have it in writing that all charges are determined prior to loading and also the amount of time before storage charges occur at the destination.

Also, investigate the company via the BBB. Most of the "problem" companies have been identified many times before.
