ok...besides dat files (mp3, docs, etc) what do you guys back-up?

example, if you were running raid 0, (thus as many people argu, you have double failure chances) what do you backup? do you backup system files so you can replace the failed drive and have a image to work with?

for me, i am going to build a monster system soon so i want to know what the best things are to backup (again, aside from data)

THANKS!!!

;)

Seriously, all I back up is downlaods, docs, pics, and email. I have the software to reinstall what I don't have downloaded.

I keep a Ghost image of my basic system setup with minimal software installed, just normal stuff like Word and Excel. Every week I backup all my data files (email, financial stuff, game saves, etc.) onto my 2nd HD and also onto CD-RW because I'm a paranoid freak.

I backup my entire C: with Drive Image software on another HD. I also that up every few months onto 2 cd-rw disks. I keep my installed games on another paritition that is not backuped, I only backup the important stuff.

I also have my MP3 file collection on another HD, which I disconnect and remove afterwards.

I have a IDE Raid 0 on 75 GXP's, which might cause some to have shiver up their spine :D I've occasionally backed up my documents, email, downloads, etc, but I have never backed up my mp3 collection which is about 15 GBs. So hopefully nothing ever happens!! Most of my mp3s I have on cds, but it would take forever to rerip. Here in a couple of months when I move out on my own, I'll probably build some small rig that will hold files such as mp3s and movies.

I used Drive Image to make a CD of a clean install with all the toolbars and stuff set up the way I want.

My machine at work has basically the same files my home machine does, so I'm not to worried about losing years worth of docs (neither machine has RAID). After I work on one of the machines, I do a search and zip any new or modified files onto a floppy to transfer to the other computer. I keep all my Word settings (templates, custom.dic and the .acl file), Quicken files and bookmarks and such in the same directory, so that one search updates all of them at once. Then about every two months I zip and burn all that data as an archive, just in case.

Hehe I don't mind losing it because it gives me an excuse to search out the new and different :) I become complacent after a while.

I backup my data files (docs, mp3's downloaded goodies, and downloaded prog setup files) to a network HDD. I back up my favorites there also. Then I back up my Outlook contacts and stuff to my PDA. As for the installable progs, I leave those as-is 'cuz I can install them from disk.

Ever since I played through 250+ hours of Baldur's Gate only to lose all my saved games, I have made sure to back up saved game files. Sure, they might seem unimportant at first. But just wait till you get 250 hours stolen away from you. Then you'll think twice before passing saves over when backing stuff up.
