Question to those with ZALMAN CNPS7000A about Fanmate 1

Is it necessary to use the fanmate 1 ? or can I just plug the fan directly into the motherboard without using the fanmate at all ? the manual mentions that fanmate is to control fan speed. Can I just use this fan without the fanmate, and let my mb control the fan, or is the fanmate necessary ?

You can connect the fan directly to the motherboard. This will result in more noise of course.
If your CPU is cool, your motherboard will reduce the RPM. But, not that much!
Just give it a try and see if it is quiet enough for you.
