I am thinking about taking SC2 seriously, because I liked SC1 back in the day.

I am wondering, are we allowed to use our own video settings in tournaments?

Personally, I don't like playing with all the flashy stuff on. It may be wonderful for a single player campaign, but when you're trying to WIN, it's just distracting. :(

At MLG, you can't set Ultra. At GSL, you can set whatever you want. Those two I know ofr sure; no idea about the others but it looks like they won't restrict your ability to turn graphics down.

As far as what players actually run on, I'm not sure. Obviously the casts are done on pretty settings but I'm all but certain that pros run on lower settings. There are a couple of tweaks that make cloaked units (particularly your own but enemy somewhat too) easier to see; this isn't an issue unless you're running everything on minimum though.

And all of that said, I'm guessing that you won't be playing in GSL or even MLG any time soon :p For local events, who the hell knows but I'd guess they won't deviate too far from "pro" league type stuff.

they do run it on low settings, but ...

what league are you even at currently? do you seriously think you can make "pro" level because you liked sc1?

for casual players "pretty" shouldn't be distracting when your units are getting pummeled while scvs are popping everywhere :D
