Question Title: ntfs.sys at Ff860E302 base F85D1000, stop 0x00000005 when running disk cleanup

Hi! Am somehwat experienced but exasperated.
System: GA-7vrxp with AMD Athlon 1900 chip, 333mhz ram, running at 266 (the problems have stayed despite 266/333 selection.
2 hard disks Model WDC WD800BB-00CAA1 C & E
HP DVD/CDRW 200i - all updates.
Xtasy Ti4200 graphics card with latest solid nvidia drivers (61.77)
disabled onboard soundcard,
Using soundblaster Live! Latest drivers from creative.
Replaced old Modem Blaster modem card with newer Creative V.92 modem for XP and updated software.
Reinstalled an HP AllinOne 7410 and updated all software after eliminating all temp files in Temp folder.
WinXp Pro, all updated. service pack 1 and 2 and all subsequent updates
Problems originally started with installing HP 7410 AllinOne.
removed NAV 2005 and used HP special SW to remove all HP scanning software then reinstalled when modem problem ID'd and taken care of. System was stable last night. BUT did not run any disk checking software.
4/2 Ran Norton Systemworks 2003 for one step checkup and system crashed BSDO and gave STOP 0x000024, with nfts.sys F85F9AD3 base F85D1000.

Reboted ran MS sytem toold disk cleanup. Got BSOD. STOP 0x0000005, ntfs.sys base F85D1000.

IRQ conflicts? I show the following multiple IRQ channels.

No solid ideas but a few suggestions:

Run a chkdsk /R from recovery console
Remove any software or drivers that touch the filesystem. This should include filter drivers like anti-virus, 3rd party disk defrag software etc.
Run a SFC /Scannow

To be sure you haven't missed something, download the "Setup/Perf" version of MPSReports from Microsoft downloads. Run it on your system and then look in the filters.txt file inside the resulting .CAB.

Those IRQ "conflicts" are perfectly normal on an ACPI system.

That ha10kx2k.sys driver is one of creative's. They are notorious for poor drivers. If you can come up with a scenario that lets you reproduce the crash at will, you can remove the soundcard to pinpoint or eliminate it as a cause.

Thanks very much for the pointers! I will print them out and run them.
The SB Live! is several years old, but thought I had current drivers(from a couple of days ago).
Am also running Norton Systemworks 2003 MINUS the NAV. Maybe I should uninstall the whole thing?
Also have Spybot and Adaware on the system.
The whole dang thing started when I installed the drivers for an HP AIO 7410 printer/fax/etc. and got worse when I did UNinstall it!
HP then gave me a link to a 4 pass uninstaller for HP scanners/imaging, etc. which seemed to get rid of it all. THEN had an old creative modem blaster that I identified and uninstalled and replaced it with a V.92 SB modem. The errors went down tremendously, am still left with the ntfs.sys problem.
Looks like great advice, and I WILL try it tonight.
OTW, it's time for a disk format and reinstall it all...

running into other problems
Getting a stop 0x0......7E, 8E, and 50 errors.

I have a copy of HD0 on anothe HD with an ntfs.sys. Should I rename it .old and copy the good ntfs.sys from HD1 and copy it HD0....?

Ouch. Man when you start seeing three or more different STOP codes it starts becoming highly unlikely that you have a software issue.

Hardware issues can go anywhere but since you're getting ntfs.sys stops in there as well as getting crashes during heavy I/O you can probably start with Controller or HDD. Check your system event logs. Look for event ids 7,9,11,26 (ignore printer related ones), and anything in the 50 series. See if you have delayed write failures or a controller or HDD that is not responding within a timeout. A good controller *should* gracefully handle a HDD error and give you an event.

If your logs don't immediately indicate controller or drive, you'll want to leverage that extra drive to do some troubleshooting. Put it in as the only drive and lay down an OS on it (don't format or anything, just put an OS down...you can delete the windows folder later if needed). See if you get a stable system out of it. If so, drive. If not, controller.

The good news about a likely hardware issue is you can probably get away without doing any painful reload once you get it sorted out.

All your advice was good, pardon me if I don't repeat it all here.
One thing I didn't 'notice' was that the errors didn't odccur first thing in the day after the system was off for an hour or more.
On a hunch I uninstalled the nvidia 61.77 drivers and the system was booting and then dropping off into )x0...7E, 8E, and 60 errors, plus the ntfs.sys erros.
When the system was in use for a while that's when things started STOP ing.
I ran the WDC extended error checking, ran chkdsk /r /f and got good checks, but kept getting dumped into BSOD.

On a hunch, uninstalled both the Creative SB Live! and the nvidia drivers (61.77).
bought a cheapie AGP ATI radeon 9250 and replace my Ti4200 geforece4.
Booted right up and been running about an hour with no problems - so far.
Had also uninstalled my norton systemworks 2003 - MAY reinstall it.
May also reinstall the SB Live! with the newest drivers - but will consider the Gigabyte onboard chip (CT580?) instead.

Maybe time to move up on a newer system.
Have a Lian li case, Gigabyte 7VRXP mb, antec 350 psu, AMD 1900, 512Kram, HP DVD 200i, SGI super duper digital display, and now the radeon 9250.
I do internet, a few serious games a year, and some desktop publishing. Should I just bump up the vid card, or go more serious with an athlon 64?

have considered the latest non-SLI board from asus and gigabyte, and heard good things about MSI.
I know there's a section of the board for multiple opinions, but what do you think?
