Question: This thing broke off my P4 Xeon.. Glue or RMA ?

One of those capacitor thing fell of the P4 on the top.. its like that stuff you snip off the nvidia graphics card to make it look better.. it's a clean break but not sure if I should glue it back or rma it back.. it's never been install yet... i'll have a picture soon if needed..

definately RMA it. Glues not a very good conductor, and at the freqs that chips run these days, i wouldn't risk any transient freqs that this might not filter out. I work for a company that manufactures hand held radios, transient freqs are not good in our equipment. We try to engineer them out of our designs whenever they rear thier nasty little heads.

if you glue it and then decide to send it back they wont honor it more than likely. With the price of those processors I wouldnt screw with it

If it's never been installed, I'd definitely RMA it. Once it's installed, they probably will just assume you broke it and not cover it.
