Question - The Last of Us

Tweak155

Lifer
Just rented this game and it wasn't quite what I was expecting... I was looking for a survival game against infected, but most of what I had time to play through was fighting other normal humans.

The last part I got to was getting through a room full of clickers, which was more what I was expecting the whole game to be like.

Did I just not make it far enough in, or does this game focus on both? Trying to decide if I should get it or not.

Focuses on both. Without giving anything away, if you were expecting L4D forget it.

Dang that sucks... they did such a good job on the environment and sound effects... but I hate a game of human survival where the humans are fighting each other. What a waste of time!

Don't get me wrong, it's not L4D but it's a great game. There is a great component of infected and great survival parts but the human interaction/survival is also great. Worth it in my opinion.

the last of us is the best game to come out in the past decade or so. play through it. it definitely starts out slow, like the first 3-4 hours are pretty slow, then it picks up. if you read through the official thread, MANY people all came in with that same comment (myself included) feeling that the game was just okay initially, but then get really sucked in. there are MANY parts in the game where you are trying to survive against just the infected and are low on resources and it's very tense.

The game is not about the infected. The game is about humanity and the things people will do and the lengths they will go to in order to survive and help the ones they care about. It's about holding on to your sanity during the most insane moments, keeping your humanity intact and not turning into an animal who doesn't care anymore. It's also about letting go of the past and embracing the future, giving hope to others etc.

The human characters are the real show here. The infected are there to push the characters along and keep the story moving IMO.

Question -

This game is completely linear, correct? There is no (or very little) choice in how you proceed, its simply a matter of making it through the scripted set pieces?

This is the best game of the year hands down. Sure it starts off slow but the story builds up and sucks you in. I absolutely loved this game and I cannot remember the last time I said that about a video game in this current gen of systems on any platform

I agree that the story has been very interesting so far. But I thought the same thing about Uncharted 2 and beat that game while hating the controls and the combat.

In the end, I wasn't sure if it was even worth hating everything but the story.

I'm still playing through it. I'm up at the part now where I'm almost at the yellow bridge. First few hours are slow and I'm getting used to sneaking around or trying to, it can be pretty rough. Clickers are easy, when you have runners with clickers it's worse. I seem to get spotted by hunters easily when ellie is running around trying to hide.
