Question: Tbird tolerance

I have a 700 TBird and am wondering about the tolerance to heat and voltage. Anyone know the safe spec values?

1.0ghz and below chips, rated maximum 90C DIE temp.

1.1 and 1.2ghz, rated maximum 95C die temp.

As far as voltage, i think hte AMD spec sheet states 1.85V max.


Unforunately, due ot temp reading problems, most of the time a 55C "read" temp is the limit. This varies from mb to mb, setup to setup, and bios to bios.

what happens past 55 degrees c? It seems rather strange that it would be so low...unless the probe is not reading correctly. I just want to know what is a safe temp.

The Probe definately reads incorrectly. Socket-thermistors read low to begin with, and since the compression is fairly high, the hotter you get, the less and less you see of that. Usually, past 55C, the chip becomes unstable.

So what is a good temp to be left at while keeping the core...safe? Or does it matter as long as it doesn't crash?

As Mike points out, over 55c and your looking for trouble. When a TBIRD 'burns' they self destruct so fast you will never power the system off fast enough. The 90c temps are impossible to measure, so they are meaningless. Use a good hsf, with good compound and plenty of case cooling. These are cheap compared to your cpu.
