I have a sony vaio laptop, and I am using premiere to do some editing with. Currently I have a SOny Video Walkman (clamshell) outputting to my laptop via the dv firewire cable. WHen i playback my edits, I get some jumpy footage, and real fast skippy stuff. Basicallly my vaio harddrive is chugging away on playback, and cannot keep up (vaio pcg-f650).. I told my boss that I need a Firewire External Harddrive (around 20 megs).. to make things easier... My question to you is :
1. Is this a good solution, can it be done with only one input on the laptop for firewire, and what do i need for multiple inputs to firewire.....

thanks

Yes, it is a good solution. I set one up like that for a friend with a DV camcorder. Firewire is easy to manage.

But! Most notebooks have 4-pin ports . . . data only, no power. You will have to provide external power to that drive to use it, most of them are 110 a/c.

For multiple Firewire needs, there are Firewire hubs. see
