question selling a car

my dad signed a car over to me but i never registered the title on my name. we got it notorized and everything, can i sell this car even though i never got it registered in my name?

Nope. You're now stuck with that car for life.

BTW, how have you been licensing the vehicle each year?

If your dad has been doing it, (since it's in his name) all you'll need is for him to sign off on the title when you sell it.

Just go register the car in your name now. You should then get a new title with your name on it. Then YOU can sell the car. This should have probably been posted in the Garage section of this board.

don't think he wants to pay taxes when he registers it in his name..
you have an open title... you probably could sell it, but the right thing to do is register it in your name and you resell it

as long as the title is signed you should be fine. I have bought and sold things with out a new title in the owners name, just a signed and noterized title. never been hassled at the sec. of state.

In some states it gets weird for the person who is going to register it. I've had a few issues with cars, but even larger issues with trailers when people do this type of thing. Though if you look up the local state laws and make it clear to the buyer then there should be no issue.
