QUESTION: Say a 20gb HDD, two partition...

one partition gets a virus; will the other be affected?
NOTE: I don't know what I'm talking about... just contemplating on things before I try them...

most likely as soon as you access the other partition.

depends on the virus. A 'virus' is just a computer program with malicious (sp?) intent, and all programs can access any drive (assuming security policies aren't enabled). So if the virus would try to spread itself to other drives, yes it could spread to the other partitions.
