Yes, I know alcoholics who drank 15 beers a day, and died young due to liver conditions.

Yes, I know a few people who drank too much one night and died from it.

Yes, I know families that have broken up because of alcoholism.

What is my question? Well I have a few:

Is getting buzzed/mildly drunk once a month, or twice a month extremely hazardous to your health assuming you don't drink daily.

Is having 1 beer a day actually good for me, or actually bad for me, or neither?

Is the fact that I have a naturally high tolerance for alcohol (it takes about 6 drinks in the first hour for me to get a buzz) a bad thing for my health (in order to acquire a buzz).

I also never have a hangover, regardless of how much I drink, or how much water I consume. Is this a good sign of my body dealing with alcohol?

Anyway, I've done some research online, talked with people, and there is way too much one-sidedness out there, people spewing the same synchronized lines over and over again. If anyone can answer me seriously, or give me a resource to look on my own I would apprecite it.

Thanks :)

Getting buzzed once a month is fine as long as you're pretty healthy the other 29/30 (ie no other addictive substances).

A beer a day is alright, unless you're on a low carb diet.

If you have a high tolerance and only drink to get buzzed once or twice a month then i'd say it's ok for your health.

Not getting a hangover shows your body can recover well from the drinking you're doing, so I do think it's a good sign. I've been drinking for years and I've only gotten few hang overs and I pretty much know what I've dranken in combination to give me hang overs so i just stay away from those drink comboes (for me, I can't ever mix beer and hard alcohol, so whenever I drink I just stick to 1 type/night).

Warning though, my opinions are based on the fact that you aren't binge drinking. If you were I'd have different thoughts.

i was wondering about something similar. how much aocohol do you have to consume before it fvcks with you? esp the brain

i'm not a regular drinker but occasionally(like a few times a year) i do get like 6/12 beers but i limit myself to 1 per day and rarely drink on consecutive days. this can't be bad can it? i mean i dont even feel anything from the alcohol except a very slight fatigue occasionally.

I've always heard that any amount of alcohol kills brain cells, but not sure the degree of that.

Having one beer a day is (as far as modern research is concerned) good for you. But probably better if you take a break from it a couple days a week.

Daily heavy drinking is very damaging, but once or twice a month without hitting alcohol poising levels should be OK.

Get cronked man. Where I goto college, many, many people go out hard at least 3 days a week. (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and often Tuesdays.) I would say at least 75% of the juniors and seniors abide by this. You got nothing to worry about getting drunk once a month. The only times you gotta worry is when your body takes a hit from alcohol, or the alkie starts affecting your work, school, love life, etc.

No, so long as you aren't driving afterwards

Men who drink one or two drinks a day actually live, on average, ~10 years longer than men who don't drink at all. Alcohol, in light moderation increases HDL's. Beer and hard alcohol is ok, but wine is the best.

Is the fact that I have a naturally high tolerance for alcohol (it takes about 6 drinks in the first hour for me to get a buzz) a bad thing for my health (in order to acquire a buzz).
It's not bad so long as you don't use it as an excuse to slam down 12 beers. Tolerence doesn't counter the affect of alcohol on your body, it just affects your cognitive abilities while drunk

I also never have a hangover, regardless of how much I drink, or how much water I consume. Is this a good sign of my body dealing with alcohol?
Not really a sign at all, and shouldn't be used as a reason to once again, hammer down a 12 pack or something the night before.

The hangover and tolerance bit are genetic, and as someone said, aren't necessarily a good or bad sign in and of themselves. Alcohol is going to affect your body regardless of whether or not you're buzzed, so just be smart about it.

I forget the what the healthy amount to drink is, but I believe it's either one drink/day, or one drink/week...I'm leaning more towards the latter, as it was a pretty minimal amount. And as someone else has already mentioned, wine is best for that.

vi_edit said exactly what I was planning to say. Very sound advice.

Like he said, don't use your body's tolerance to alcohol as an excuse to drink more.

If you have Scottish/Irish roots like me, you can drink as much as you want and just wring out your liver once a week :)

A friend of mine got a few too many MIPs, and part of his punishment was to take these alcohol "classes". Anyway, according to this class, getting drunk hurts your entire body, not just brain and liver- joints, muscles, heart, etc, etc.. Although, comming from this state run "class", it might have been pure propaganda.

About hangovers, until I was about 18 I never got a hangover, reguardless of how much I drank. It wore off though; I must have punished the body too much. I pay the price now for drinking too much of the medicine.
